OAK CLASS

OUR ROUTINES

Start/ end timings

Children in Oak Class are expected to be sitting in class learning from 8.55am.  Learning finishes at 3.30pm and children will be allowed home minutes after this.

Break times

Children have a mid-morning break for 15 minutes and an hour for lunch.  KS2 pupils do not have a mid-afternoon break but may at times be taken out for some fresh air as a brain break.

Behaviour

Children at Sabden have very good behaviour with lots of good modelling displayed by children across the day.  Children in Key Stage 2 do not have a rewards system for good behaviour as it is an expectation, not a choice.  We do have a house point system where children are rewarded for exceeding expectations in their respect, level of challenge and resilience.

Reading

Children choose reading books at their level and when finished they are welcome to choose new book from our large selection of books in school. Children do not have a set reading book ‘swap’ day but are expected to have their school planner daily for recording reading in school and at home.

Physical Education
PE sessions are run twice a week on Wednesday and Friday.  Pupils wear a separate PE uniform on these days.  The uniform is a white crew neck t-shirt or polo shirt, black leggings/joggers or when appropriate black shorts and basic, all black trainers.  On PE days children do not wear ‘normal’ school uniform.

Continued learning at home

Children are expected to complete set homework. This includes maths, grammar and punctuation, reading and spelling We also use Times Tables Rockstars-if you are unsure of your logon, ask Mrs Murray.

Pupil voice
Children take part in two school questionnaires each year and several specific surveys throughout the year.  Children in Oak Class have the opportunity to serve the school as Reading Buddies, School Council, Wellbeing Warriors, Playground Buddies. We also hold a yearly election for the roles of head pupil and deputy head pupil to represent the school.
