Mini Police

Mini Police Programme with Ribble Valley Police

We have been delighted this academic year (2025/2026), to be able to offer a group of our KS2 pupils the exciting opportunity to take part in the Mini Police Programme, delivered by officers from Ribble Valley Police.

The programme, delivered over 10 weeks, is designed to help children develop a greater understanding of the important role the police play within our communities. Throughout the ten weeks, pupils explored a variety of different careers and specialisms within the police force, gaining first-hand insight into how officers and staff work together to keep people safe.

The children enjoyed a range of engaging and interactive sessions, including:

  • Traffic Enforcement: learning how police officers help to keep roads safe. Our pupils were given the fantastic opportunity to be involved with using speed radar guns and were able to challenge motorists.
  • Police Dogs: we were visited by the K9 unit who demonstrated how specially trained dogs assist officers in keeping our community safe. Our Mini Police recruits learnt how police dogs use their powerful sense of smell to detect suspicious items and support important investigations.
  • Drone Operations: Officers demonstrated how drones work and explained how they can assist with searching for missing people, monitoring large events, and supporting emergency situations from above. This was a brilliant opportunity for them to learn more about modern policing and the important role technology plays in helping officers do their jobs.
  • Crime Scene Investigation (CSI): our recruits were able to take part in interactive activities that demonstrated how evidence from crime scenes is collected and analysed to help solve crimes.
  • First Aid: our children became mini-medics for the afternoon and learnt some valuable emergency first aid skills. This session was supported by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Throughout the programme, our pupils developed valuable skills including teamwork, communication, responsibility and problem-solving. They also gained a deeper appreciation of the many different roles that exist within the police service and the positive impact these roles have on our local community.

The Mini Police Programme was a fantastic experience for all involved, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the officers from Ribble Valley Police for giving their time, expertise and enthusiasm throughout the ten weeks.
