Governors
Sibtain Hussain
Chair of Governors
Hello! I am Dr Sibtain Hussain, and I am honoured to be the Chair of Governors at Sabden Primary School. Both of my boys and daughter attend Sabden Primary School. I am committed to helping the school drive forward by building an environment that allows every child to grow and have the school journey they deserve. I will also be taking a keen interest in Health and Wellbeing as well as Science.
In my professional life, I am a full-time GP Partner at Pendleside Medical Practice. My special interests are minor surgery, dermatology and musculoskeletal disease. I provide dermatology services across East Lancashire. Recently, I took on the role of Clinical Director for Ribblesdale Primary Care Network. I enjoy going to the gym, spending time with my family and, if there is anytime left, playing cricket.
Catherine Jackson

As a teacher at Sabden Primary School, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to meet with our other Governors and share all the fantastic and exciting things that happen in our school.
Hannah Cartmell
Co-opted Governor
I’m Dr Hannah Cartmell. I am a co-opted Governor and my son attends Sabden Primary School. In my professional life, I’m an educational psychologist with a mental health specialism. I have almost 20 years' experience working with schools to support the inclusion of children and young people who may face barriers to education. I work as a tutor on the Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology at Manchester University. One aspect of my role is supervising doctoral research projects which have recently explored topics including the importance of play, emotionally based school non-attendance and relational approaches. I want to apply my professional experience to support Sabden Primary School to provide a nurturing environment that promotes the holistic development of all our pupils.
As a Governor, my specific responsibilities are Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Wellbeing, Behaviour and Attitudes, and Pupil Premium. I’m also on the Finance Committee.
Sam Dawes
Co-opted Governor
I work in HR in the private sector, leading on talent development and employee engagement – a job that has me travelling around the country delivering staff training and coaching managers. However, I started my career working in education both for the Department for Education in London and then later with an Education Charity, managing projects in the UK and overseas. My husband and I moved from the South East of England to Lancashire in 2019 and have fallen in love with the landscape and sense of community. That is one of the reasons why I wanted to get involved as a School Governor at Sabden Primary School. My link subjects are Art & Design, History and RE.
Angela Dearing
Co-opted Governor
I moved to the nearby village of Read from Manchester in 2021 and have had links with Sabden Primary School ever since. My children attend the school and I also work part-time supporting the school office. In 2023, I became the PTFA Treasurer. I have worked for many years in the NHS and private sector as a Senior CT/MRI Radiographer and a Radiology Manager. I currently run two successful businesses with my husband. The first is PJDIT, which is an IT support and infrastructure company within the business sector, and the second is The Business Calls Company, a phone and IT communication company. These experiences have given me many transferable skills that I can put to use to help and support Sabden Primary School. My link subjects are Maths & Music. I am also a member of the Finance Committee.
